School Store is tomorrow! Thanks for the support of our 4th and 5th grade events throughout the year!

On Wednesday, Jane Addams students in first, third, and fifth grade had their vision and hearing checks! Thanks, Nurse Nick, for keeping us organized while they had their screenings!

Roosevelt High School Homecoming Royalty stopped by Jane Addams on Thursday to play and interact with the kids in the classrooms and on the playground! What positive role models they were to our young kids! Thanks for coming!

Our first dress up day was "School Pride Day" where students, staff, and families were encouraged to wear a shirt of their favorite school! Students loved showing off their pride! We had elementaries, middle schools, high schools, and colleges represented! Way to go!

School Store was a huge success on its first opening of the year! Students can purchase different food items by either using cash or by purchasing a punch card! Thank you to the Rock and Colby families for getting this all organized and ready! Thanks to our Tuesday 4th and 5th grade parents for helping getting items ready and to our 4th and 5th graders who help run the store. Money earned from the sales has many purposes for our 4th and 5th grade students throughout the year! Thanks for your support!

In Family, students learn about leadership skills based on Steven Covey's 7 Habits for Highly Effective People and foundations within the Leader in Me program! Each month students focus on a leadership habit and learn skills to use in their daily lives! On Monday, we had a kickoff to this by discussing what a leader is and what are habits. Students made friendship bracelets with inspiring quotes. Next month, they will focus on habit one. Here are the 7 Habits we practice and follow.
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin with the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw

EIC 3-4 and ACE 3 took advantage of the nice weather and comfy seating in our school's Outdoor Classroom! They loved reading together!

Don't forget about our dress up day tomorrow!

STEM Fridays are always a blast especially when Miss Leloux's third graders get to try out the new handheld microscopes received from a Sioux Falls Public School Proud Grant! WOW, these are so fun! The microscopes can zoom in to see your hair, skin, fibers on your clothes, etc!! Students had a blast! They also extended their learning in science doing experiments with magnets through kits also received from a grant! Cool!

On Friday, the 4th and 5th graders in Miss Nelson and Mrs. Gray's class took advantage of all of the fun STEM items ACE has received from grants the past couple of years! They got to play Gravity Mazes, Buildzi, Snap Circuits, and Otrio! Lots of learning and fun at the same time!

Here are our week of September 18th-22nd Jane Addams High Flyers! We are so proud of your efforts to demonstrate skills of being respectful, responsible and safe!! Way to go!

Our first school dress up day is Wednesday, September 27 and it is School Pride Day! Students, families, and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite school shirt for elementary, future/favorite middle or high school, or favorite college! Have fun!

Our Eagle Expectation for the Week is "When and How to Get Positive Attention from Others." Check out some of the slides reviewed with students this week in class and ask them what they learned! Thanks for reviewing these skills each week with your child at home.

Smile! It was school picture day today! The kids looked great!

Jane Addams staff meetings are so fun when Life Church comes for a visit and brings yummy treats!! Thank you again for the apple nachos!! We appreciate it!

Miss Leloux's 3rd graders loved the chance to try out the virtual reality headsets she received from a Sioux Falls Public School Education Foundation grant a couple years ago! They are so fun to use and what a neat opportunity to get to explore the world and visit places far away! They love them!!

Jane Addams students strive each week to be respectful, responsible, and safe in all areas of our school. Teachers explicitly teach with high expectations to strive for these three B's (be respectful, be responsible, be safe) through our PBIS behavior system. Each week we focus on a skill and provide lessons and opportunities to practice with our students. In our first few weeks of school, we really focused hard on expectations on the playground, in the bathroom, in the hallway, in our classroom, and our lunchroom procedures. The past two weeks our Eagle Expectations have focused on following directions without arguing and complaining and how to respond to adults when they are talking to you at school.
If you have a child at ACE, chat with them about what they have learned or would do. Our parents are training and starting back in our classrooms this week so we are excited to show them our skills of being respectful, responsible, and safe!

Here are the Soaring High Flying Eagles this week! We are proud you worked hard to be responsible, respectful and safe this week! Way to go!
